The Moment I Decided to Change
I never thought I’d end up in fitness. My background is actually in nursing—I used to care for patients after heart surgery and later worked in hyperbaric medicine. But when I became a mother of three, life shifted. I stopped working, gained weight, and felt like I had lost myself.
I’ve had diabetes since I was 24, but it wasn’t until after my third child that I had a wake-up call. I told myself: I want to live long enough, and live well. I want to run and travel with my grandchildren, not be stuck in a wheelchair. That was the moment I decided—it was time to change.
How I Found Joy and Confidence Through Piloxing
The funny thing is, I hated exercise growing up. In school, I would cheat during runs, hiding after one lap when I was supposed to do three. But in my thirties, after my daughter was born, I started experimenting. Nothing lasted—it was always tied to a short-term goal.
Everything shifted when I found group fitness—and later, Piloxing. Piloxing combines Pilates, boxing, and dance, and it’s unlike anything else I’d tried. It’s fun, high-energy, and really works the whole body. I started with one class a week, then two, then three. Slowly, I saw changes in my body—and in my confidence.
One day, my instructor asked me to move from the back to the front of the class. I saw myself in the mirror and thought, I can do this. That was a powerful moment. She inspired me so much that I decided to train as an instructor. Eventually, I became a Piloxing Master Trainer covering Asia.
Piloxing has given me strength, balance, and endurance I never had before. It helps protect my joints, improves my posture, and makes me feel lighter and more agile. I also love wearing Fanka leggings when I teach or take classes—they provide the right compression and support, making movements like squats, lunges, and kicks feel safer and more comfortable. The sleek design fits perfectly with Piloxing’s style, so I can focus on my workout without worrying about my clothes.
Small Steps, Big Wins
I always remind people that real change isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about small, sustainable steps:
· I swapped white rice for brown rice.
· I trained at home when I couldn’t get to the gym.
· I kept workouts fun, with music and movement I love.
· I shared desserts instead of skipping them—I love food too much to give it up!
The hardest part is simply getting out of the door. But once you’re there, you never regret it. Having friends or family to support you makes everything easier. My advice? Be shameless. Don’t worry about what others think when you step into a class. You’re doing this for yourself. Some days you’ll feel strong, some days you won’t—and that’s okay. Success is showing up.
Fitness has transformed my life. Piloxing keeps me energized, and Fanka leggings make every session more comfortable and supportive. If I could go from hiding during school runs to teaching classes across Asia, then change is possible for you too.
